I'm a lion they roared,
or wolves in the pack who howled choruses at night
I never was fond of such aggressive appetites
A hummingbird to me is the creature most like mine,
a sign from some divine that life is without rhyme
Tiny and fragile ruby-throated so frantic,
Flickering from flower to flower in panic
Dancing towards death your only relief
Is when the life nectar gives you some peace
And for a second you are still though wings beat eternal
